Respiration
Respiration is the process to produce energy in the form of ATP by the oxidation of respiratory substrates such as glucose, fats, and proteins.
Conclusion
In aerobic respiration out of total ATP produced 2 are used in the preparatory phase of glycolysis. Thus net gain is 38 ATP molecules in aerobic respiration for one molecule of glucose. Similarly in the case of anaerobic respiration from the total ATP produced, some of them are utilised in the process, thus the net gain is 2 ATP molecules for one molecule of glucose. Therefore it can be said that respiration is an energy producing process but ATP is being used in some steps of the process.
