Solution
Characteristics of prophase
Key events of prophase are:
The initiation of chromatin condensation to form a compact structure, chromosome.
Breakdown of the nuclear envelope, nucleolus, Golgi complexes, and endoplasmic reticulum.
Radiation of asters from the centrosome after they migrate to the opposite poles.
Characteristics of telophase
Telophase is characterised by:
Decondensation of chromosomes to form chromatin.
Reappearance of the nuclear envelope around the chromatin at the opposite poles of the cell.
Reappearance of the nucleolus, Golgi complex, and endoplasmic reticulum.
Explanation
The key events that take place in prophase such as condensation of chromatin, breakdown of the nuclear envelope, nucleolus, etc. get reversed during telophase as is evident due to the decondensation of chromosomes to chromatin and reappearance of the nuclear envelope and nucleolus. Thus, telophase is the reverse of prophase.
