Solution

Common salt cannot be separated from sea water by using filtration process because common salt is completely soluble in water and hence cannot be filtered off from the solution.

  • Filtration is the process in which solid particles in a liquid or gaseous fluid are removed by the use of a filter paper that permits the fluid to pass through but retains the solid particles.
  • The liquid that passes through the filter paper is called a filtrate and the solid that remains on the filter paper is called a residue.
