Acrylonitrile is manufactured by using Sohio technology involving ammoxidation of propylene. In this technique, propylene, ammonia and oxygen are allowed to react over bisumth molybdate. HCN and acetonitile are also obtained along with acrylonitrile which are removed by distillation.
