In iron metallurgy process, slag is formed by the reaction of limestone with impurities such as Silica.
CaCO3 ---> CaO + CO2
CaO + SiO2 ----> CaSiO3 ( calcium silicate)
Here Calcium silicate is slag which melts and collects above the iron at the bottom of the furnace. It is an easily fusible mass having a low melting point and mainly used in road making.
