The atoms are closely packed without any space in between. The atoms are loosely packed. The atoms are free to move all over the place.
These closely packed atoms make up the matter and hence it is denser than liquids and gases. As these are apart so they are weightless and less dense than solids and greater than gases. As the atoms are farthest apart and are generally weightless and least dense than solids and liquids.
