To compare the fraction make the denominator same of the both fractions:

Multiply the numerator and denominator of the fraction $\frac{9}{16}$ by $9$.

$\frac{9}{16}=\frac{9\times 9}{16\times 9}=\frac{81}{144}$

Multiply the numerator and denominator of the fraction$\frac{5}{9}$ by $16$

$\frac{5}{9}$$=\frac{5\times 16}{9\times 16}=\frac{80}{144}$

We can see the denominator in both fractions is equal, so the fraction with a greater numerator will be greater.

$\frac{80}{144}<\frac{81}{144}$$\Rightarrow$$\frac{9}{16}>\frac{5}{9}$

Hence $\frac{9}{16}$ is greater than$\frac{5}{9}$.
