Solution

Ligaments

Nature and location

  1. The ligaments are cord-like dense yellow fibrous connective tissues that possess strength and high elasticity.
  2. It has a little intercellular matrix.
  3. The ligament connects a bone with another bone.
  4. A ligament comprises many yellow elastin fibers and bundles of white collagen fibers and is bounded together with the help of areolar tissue.

Functions of ligaments :

  1. It allows bending and rotation movements over a joint.
  2. It binds a bone with another bone.
  3. It strengthens the joints.

Tendons

Nature and location

  1. The tendons are small cord-like dense white fibrous connective tissues that possess strength and limited elasticity with more matrix.
  2. The tendons consist of parallel bundles of collagen fibers with rows of flat fibroblasts between them.
  3. These fibroblasts are called tendinocytes.

Functions of tendons :

  1. It joins a skeletal muscle to a bone.
  2. . It helps the bone to move when the muscle is contracted and relaxed.
S. no.Ligaments Tendons
1.NatureStrong and elastic.Tough and inelastic.
2.White fibersWhite fibers are arranged in various directions.White fibers are arranged parallelly.
3. Yellow fibers Present.Absent.
4.FibroblastsIt is scattered. It is arranged in rows.
