Part 1: Plants kept in sunlight
Chlorophyll is a pigment that is responsible for the green color in plants. The exposure of chlorophyll to high intensity sunlight can result in photo oxidation of chlorophyll. This results in the destruction of chlorophyll pigments.
Part 2: Plants kept in shade
The light intensity is less in shade. Thus photo oxidation will not occur in plants kept in shade. Compared to plants kept in sunlight, plants in the shade will have more chlorophyll. As a result of which plants kept in shade will be greener than the plants kept in sunlight.
