Question

Compare the role of enzymes dna polymerase and dna ligase in replication fork of dna

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student

There are three DNA polymerase used in DNA replication.

DNA Polymerase 1 - repair polymerase involved in excision repair with 3' - 5' and 5' - 3' exonuclease activity. Present in prokaryotes.

DNA Polymerase II - 3' - 5' exonuclease activity, involved in DNA repair, replication restart to bypass lesions

DNA Polymerase III - holoenzyme, primary enzyme involved in DNA replication in E,Coli.

DNA ligase plays role in joining the Okazaki fragments of the lagging strand by providing the phosphodiester bond.
