Solution

Balanced chemical equation:

A chemical equation in which the numbers of atoms of each element on both sides of the equation are equal is called a balanced equation.

Step 1: Representation of the chemical reaction

AlAluminium+N2NitrogenAlNAluminiumNitride

Step 2: Calculating the number of atoms on both sides of the reaction

ElementsNumber of atoms on the reactant sideNumber of atoms on the product side
Al 1 1
N21

Step 3: Balancing the uneven numbers of atoms on both sides of the reaction

  1. As the number of aluminium is equal but the number of nitrogen atoms are unequal. So balancing these can be done by multiplying the required coefficient for them in the reaction.
  2. to make atoms equal, on the reactant side, ‘ 2 ’ will be multiplied with aluminium and on the product side, ‘ 2 ’ will be multiplied with aluminium nitride.

2AlAluminium+N2Nitrogen2AlNAluminiumNitride

ElementsNumber of atoms on the reactant sideNumber of atoms on the product side
Al 2 2
N22

Hence, the equation is balanced

2AlAluminium+N2Nitrogen2AlNAluminiumNitride
