Complete and balance following equations CO+H2

Open in App
Solution

The representation of a chemical reaction in the form of symbols (substances) is known as a chemical equation. A chemical equation consists of reactants, products and an arrow showing the direction of the reaction. The equation in which the number of atoms of all the molecules is equal on both sides of the equation is known as the balanced chemical equation.

In order to balance this equation we will follow these steps

CO+H2CH3OH

AtomsLHSRHS
C11
O11
H24

There are 2 H on the left and only 4 on the right. A coefficient of 2 for H2 will satisfy the mass requirements

CO+2H2CH3OH

AtomsLHSRHS
C11
O11
H2X2=44

CO(g)+2H2(g)CH3OH(l) is the balanced chemical equation.
