Fe+Cl2

Solution

Part 1: When Iron reacts with Chlorine we get Ferrous chloride.

The equation of the reaction can be written as-

Fe(s)Iron+Cl2(g)ChlorinegasFeCl3(s)FerricChloride

Balancing-

  • We multiply the Chlorine molecule in the reactant part by 3.
  • To balance 6 atoms of chlorine in the reactant part we multiply Ferrous chloride in the product part by 2.
  • Multiply Iron in the reactant part by 2.
  • Hence, the balanced equation is-

2Fe(s)Iron+3Cl2(g)Chlorine2FeCl3(s)Ferrouschloride

Part 2: Type of Reaction:

It is an example of a synthesis reaction.

Synthesis reaction- A synthesis reaction or direct combination reaction is a type of chemical reaction in which two or more simple substances combine to form a more complex product.

  • The reactants may be elements or compounds.
  • The product is always a compound.
