Reaction of Calcium oxide with water:

  • When Calcium oxide(quick lime) reacts with water it forms Calcium hydroxide(slaked lime) with the evolution of heat.
  • Since the heat evolved during the reaction. So, it is an exothermic reaction.
  • The balanced chemical reaction can be written as:

CaOCalciumoxide+H2OWaterCa(OH)2Calciumhydroxide+Heat

  • It is an example of a combination reaction because in this reaction two reactants combine to form a new compound as the product.
