1. The given reaction is known as the Bromine test which is used to identify the alkyne and alkenes in the laboratory.

2. When unsaturated hydrocarbon ethene C2H4 is bubbled through a solution of bromine (Br2) in carbon tetrachloride CCl4, the brown colour of bromine is discharged due to the formation of colorless addition product ethyl bromide.
