Question

Complete and balance the following equations :

(a) NaOH+............. Na2SO4 + H2O

(b) Ca(OH)2 + ............. CaCO3 + H2O

Open in App
Solution

(a)

NaOH+H2SO4 Na2SO4 + H2O

In this equation, Sodium (Na) and Hydrogen (H) atoms are not balanced. There are 2 atoms of Sodium (Na) on Right Hand Side, so we can multiply NaOH with 2 on Left Hand Side. This balances the Sodium (Na) atoms. Now, Hydrogen (H) and Oxygen (O)atoms are unbalanced. Again, we multiply 2 with Water on Left Hand Side. Thus all the elements are balanced.

2NaOH+H2SO4 Na2SO4 + 2H2O

(b)

Ca(OH)2+CO2CaCO3+H2O

Here the basic skeletal equation itself is balanced. So we dont have to do anything more.
