The strength of linkage is inversely proportional to the distance between the two linked genes. Depending upon the linkage strength, two types of linkage are classified as follows:

(1) Complete linkage: Genes located very close to ech other on the same chromosome, and inherited together as a unit over the generations.

(2) Incomplete linkage: Genes located distantly on the same chromosome, with chances of crossing over comparatively more, they tend to separate occasionally.

Size of the linkage group does not affect the nature of linkage.
The total number of base pairs in the genetic constituent of an organism (genome) does not decide the nature of the linkage.
