Solution

When metal oxides like copper oxide react with acid, it forms copper sulfate and water. They are called amphoteric oxides.

CuO+H2SO4CuSO4+H2O

  • Number of atoms in LHS,

Cu = 1 atom, O = 5 atoms, H - 2 atoms, S = 1 atom

  • Number of atoms in RHS,

Cu = 1 atom, O = 5 atoms, H - 2 atoms, S = 1 atom

The number of atoms in LHS and RHS is equal and the equation is said to be balanced.

Therefore, the balanced chemical equation is CuO(s)CopperOxide+H2SO4(aq)SulphuricAcidCuSO4(aq)CopperSulphate+H2O(l)Water
