Solution

Thyroid gland:

  1. It is an endocrine gland located on either sides of the trachea.
  2. It produces two important hormones namely thyroxin and calcitonin
  3. The thyroid hormones regulate metabolism, growth and development of body.

Pituitary gland:

  1. It is a oval shaped gland attached to the hypothalamus present in the underside of the brain.
  2. It has three lobes namely the anterior, posterior and the intermediate lobe.
  3. The anterior lobe produces tropic hormones like the thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) etc.
  4. The posterior lobe stores and secretes two hormones produced by the hypothalamus namely vasopressin and oxytocin.
  5. Melanocyte stimulating hormone (MSH) is produced by the intermediate lobe.
  6. Vasopressin is involved in absorbing the excessive water that is lost through urine by the kidneys.

Pancreas:

  1. It acts as both an endocrine as well as an exocrine gland.
  2. As an endocrine gland is produces hormones like insulin and glucagon.
  3. Insulin is an antidiabetic hormone which reduces the blood sugar levels by increasing the utilization of sugars by the cells.

Lacrimal gland:

  1. It is present in the eyes and involved in the production of tears.
  2. Tears keep the eyeball moist and protect it from bacterial infections.

Adrenal glands:

  1. They are a pair of glands located above each kidney.
  2. They secrete adrenal and nor adrenaline hormone from adrenal medulla and glucocorticoids, mineralocorticoids and sex hormones from adrenal cortex.

Final answer: 1. Thyroxin, 2. Regulation of metabolism, growth and development of the body, 3. Anterior pituitary gland, 4. Controls the amount of water in the blood, 5. Pancreas, 6. Insulin, 7. Tears, 8. Keeps eyeball moist and prevents bacterial infections of the eye. 9. Adrenalin and nor adrenalin 10. Controls anger, fear, blood pressure, heart beat, respiration etc.
