Solution

The correct option is D Commensal
Predation is a type of interspecific interaction in which the predator eats another organism called the prey. In this interaction, the one that gets benefited is the predator and the one that gets harmed (killed) is the prey. The predator is represented by ‘+’ sign as it gets benefited and ‘-’ sign is used to indicate prey as it gets harmed.

The starfish Pisaster is an important predator in the rocky intertidal communities of the American Pacific Coast. This predatory starfish feeds on the mussels (molluscs) and keeps its population under control.

Commensalism is a type of population interaction in which, out of the two interacting species, one is benefited and the other is neither benefited or harmed. The organism that gets benefitted is called commensal and the organism that does not derive any benefit neither gets harmed is called as host.

Sea anemone is a cnidarian that has stinging tentacles with specialised cells called cnidocytes that help in catching the prey and providing self-defence. The clown fish lives near to the sea anemone as they get protection from the predators because of the stinging tentacles. The clown fish is a commensal organism in this interaction as it is getting benefited.

Pollinators transfer the pollen from the anther to the stigma of the flower. Several animals are pollinators of the flowering plants.

Decomposers are organisms that derive nourishment from the dead plant and animal matter.

Parasites cannot live independently and depend on the host for survival.

Hence, option d is correct.
