Solution

Parts of the digestive system: Salivary glands

  1. Enzyme secreted: Salivary amylase
  2. Functions performed: Salivary glands secrete saliva which contains salt, mucus and digestive enzyme. Digestive enzyme present in saliva is salivary amylase which transforms starch into maltose.

StarchMaltose

Parts of the digestive system: Stomach

  1. Enzyme secreted: Pepsin, Renin
  2. Functions performed: The gastric juice secreted by stomach contains hydrochloric acid and two digestive enzymes namely pepsin and renin. Pepsin converts large protein molecules into simple proteoses and peptones while renin converts casein into insoluble curd called paracasein.

caseinrenininsouable curd (paracasein)

Parts of the digestive system: Pancreas

  1. Enzyme secreted: Bile juice
  2. Functions performed: Liver secrete bile juice. Bile juice does not contain any digestive enzymes. It helps in emulsification of fat (breaking of large fat globules into small fat droplets)

Parts of the digestive system: Pancreas

  1. Enzyme secreted: Trypsin, Lipase, Amylase.
  2. Functions performed: Pancreatic juice secreted by pancreas contain three digestive enzymes namely trypsin, amylase and lipase.

Parts of the digestive system: Intestine

  1. Enzyme secreted: Erepsin, maltase, sucrase and lactase.
  2. Functions performed: Intestine secretes intestinal juice and it contains digestive enzymes such as erepsin, maltase, sucrase and lactase.
