Question

Compute the ratio of the gravitational force and electrostatic force between an electron (mass 9.1×1031kg) and a proton (mass 1.7×1027kg)

Open in App
Solution

Mass of electron=9.1×1031 (value given in the question is wrong)
Let us assume that electron and proton placed with separation distance r meters.
Gravitational Force FG=G×mp×mer2=6.67×1011×9.1×1031×1.7×1027r2=6.67×9.1×1.7×1069r2.....................(i)
Electrostatic Force FE=14πε0e2r2=9×109×1.6×1.6×1038r2.................................................(ii)
Hence,
FGFE=4.47×1040
