Question

Concentration of solution=

Amount of solute/Amount of solution

Or

Amount of solute/Amount of solvent

Are these both formula same.Can you send me some questions based on these formulas.

Solution

There are various ways to express the concentration like molarity, mass percentage and molality etc.

Molarity = moles of solute / volume of solution

It is not mass of solute or solvent. We have to use moles and volume here.

For example; 40 g of NaOH dissolved in 2 L of solution so calculate molarity.

moles of NaOH = 40 g / 40 g/mol = 1 mole [ here molar mass of NaOH= 40 g/mol]

so Molarity = 1 mole of NaOH / 2 L of solution = 0.5 M

> Another way is mass percentage that is;

Mass percentage = (mass of solute / mass of solution) x 100
