Question

Cone cells in human eye are responsible for color vision. The cone cells are of three types: Red (R), Green (G) and Blue (B) cells. Each type of cone cell responds to a range of wavelengths, with a particular wavelength showing the maximum response. Given below is a graph showing relative response of cone cells in different wavelengths of light.

Which of the cone cell(s) will respond to wavelengths in the orange region?

Solution

The correct option is B Red and green
As seen from the above graph, we can visualize that orange colour has wavelength of aproxximately 590 nm and the red cone cells are responsible from 450 nm to 700 nm and green cone cells are responsible from 400 nm to 650 nm. So, for orange region, red and green cone cells will give response.
