First unknown resistance R1=12Ω

Second unknown resistance R2=6Ω

Length AP L1=x

Length PB L2=72-x

Step 2. The formula used and calculation

Using the galvanometer coil balanced formula,

At balanced conditions,

L1R1=L2R2x12=72-x6x2=72-x1x=144-2xx=1443x=48cm

Hence, the value of x, to the nearest integer, is 48cm,
