Consider an Indian rubber cube having modulus of rigidity of 2×107dyne cm2 and of side 8 cm. If one side of the rubber is fixed, while a tangential force equal to the weight of 300 kg is applied to the opposite face, then find out the shearing strain produced and distance through which the strain side moves.

Shear modulus =2×107dynecm2=2×102N/cm
a=8cm2
F=300×10=3000N
3000N64cms=2×102N/cm .strain
Strain=300064×200=1564=0.234
Δll=0.234
Δl=(0.234×8)cm
Δl=4872cm
