Consider the following fauna
(1) Chinkara (2) Siberian Crane
(3) Namdapha Flying Squirrel (4) Chiru
Which of the above is/are endangered?
All of the above
The chinkara, is also known as the Indian gazelle. Chinkara live in arid plains and hills, deserts, dry scrub and light forests. The chinkara is threatened by extensive hunting for meat and loss of habitat. In 1994, it was categorised as Vulnerable by the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN). The situation has looked up since then, and the classification has been changed to Least Concern in 2003.
The breeding area of the Siberian crane formerly extended between the Urals and Ob river south to the Ishim and Tobol rivers and east to the Kolyma region. The population declined with changes in land use, the destruction of wetlands for agricultural expansion and hunting on their migration routes. The western population winters in Iran and some individuals formerly wintered in India. Today it is endangered.
Namdapha Flying Squirrel of North east and Chiru or Tibetian antelope are also endangered.
