$C_{2} H_{5} O H$ (ethanol) and $C H_{3} C O O H$ (ethanoic acid) are the compounds which can react with each other, in the presence of concentrated sulphuric acid, to form a sweet smelling ester called ethyl ethanoate. Its formula is $C H_{3} - C O O - C H_{2} - C H_{3}$ .

The chemical equation for the above reaction is as follows:
$C H_{3} - C O O H + C_{2} H_{5} O H C o n c . H_{2} S O_{4} - ------- \to C H_{3} - C O O - C_{2} H_{5} + H_{2} O$
