C₂H₅OH (ethanol) and CH₃COOH (ethanoic acid) are the compounds which can react with each other, in the presence of concentrated sulphuric acid, to form a sweet smelling ester called ethylethanoate. Its formula is CH₃-COO-CH₂-CH₃_.

The chemical equation for the above reaction is as follows:

$C_{2} H_{5} OH + {CH}_{3} COOH \overset{C o n c . H_{2} S O_{4}}{\to} {CH}_{3} {COOC}_{2} H_{5} {+ H}_{2} O$
