The amino group is made bulkier by acylation and thus sulphonylation occurs only at the para position (Cl-group leaves). When ethylamine is added to the resulting compound, an ethylsulphonamide is formed. The amide is converted to amine by warming with dilute acid when the sulphonamide part remains unaffected.
