Solution

The correct options are
B The equilibrium favors products
D If phenol is substituted by p-chlorophenol, reaction will be more exothermic
During the reaction between an acid and a base, a weaker acid and a weaker base are obtained.
Phenol is more acidic than ethanol. Similarly, phenoxide ion is less basic than ethoxide ion.
Hence, during the reaction C2H5OK+C6H5OHC2H5OH+C6H5OK the equilibrium will favor the products which contain a weak acid (ethanol) and a weak base (potassium phenoxide).
When phenol is substituted by p-chlorophenol, due to electron withdrawing effect of chlorine, the acidity increases.
Hence, during neutralization reaction, more energy is released.
