The brominating agent,​ N-bromosuccinimide (NBS), is used for preparation of allylic bromide. It lead to allylic substitution reaction through​ free-radical mechanism.​
This reaction gives compound (I) and (II) by rearrangement on allyl radical.
Compound (I) has two optically active enantiomers because it has a asymmetric carbon centre and (II) has two geometrical isomers (cis and trans). Hence total 4 different monobromo derivatives would be produced.
