  • In this reaction, glucose reacts with alcohol ROH in presence of dry HCl to form α or β alkyl glycosides or acetal, which are cyclic anomeric forms of glucose.
  • Then, the glycosides react with Xeq of CH3CO2O to form an acetyl derivative.

The second reaction:

Glucose Ni/H2A CH3CO2Oyeq.of acetyl derivative

  • In this reaction, the glucose molecule undergoes hydrogenation due to which the double present in glucose break and gets bonded with hydrogen so product A is hexamethanol.
