Both Li and Mg forms hydrated chloride i.e LiCl.2H2O and MgCl2.6H2O respectively while other elements of gorup I and II forms anhydrous chloride.
Chlorides of both Li and Mg are deliquescent (absorb moisture from surroundings) and soluble in alcohol and pyridine.They separates out from aqueous solutions as hydrated crystals.
