The Dadasaheb Phalke Award was introduced in 1969 by the government to recognise the contribution of film personalities towards the development of Indian Cinema. The first recipient of this award was Devika Rani. Oscar award is a group of 24 artistic and technical honours that recognises excellence in cinematic achievements in the US film industry. Bhanu Athaiya got the Oscar award for costume design in film Gandhi. The Man Booker International Prize was established in 2005, biannually rewarding an author for a body of work originally written in any language as long as it was widely available in English.
