Solution

The correct option is A Both 1 and 2
(a)
For a soil to be well graded coefficient of curvature (Cu) must lie between 1 and 3. In addition to this coefficient of uniformity (Cu) must be greater than 4 for gravels and greater than 6 for sands.
A soil is said to be very uniform, if Cu<5 ; it is said to be of medium uniformity if Cu = 5 to15; and it is said to be very nonuniform or well graded, if Cu>15.
