Mutation is the change in genetic traits in an organism. E.g. change in skin or eye colour. Natural selection is an important mechanism of evolution. It states that the organisms that are able to survive and reproduce with the changing environmental conditions are selected by nature while the ones that cannot survive are eliminated. Traits develop not because they are required. Many times they are developed randomly or due to accidents. Traits that give a competitive advantage become stronger traits and become common over generations.
