Round Table Conference was first ever conferences between the British and Indians as equals. While the congress and most business leaders boycotted the first Round Table Conference, the Muslim League, the Hindu Mahasabha, the Liberals and Princes attended it.

The British Government now made attempts to negotiate an agreement with the congress so that it would attend the Round Table Conference, Finally Lord Irwin and Gandhiji Negotiated a settlement in March 1931 known as Gandhi – Irwin Pact.

गोलमेज सम्मेलन ब्रिटिश और भारतीयों के बीच बराबरी के स्तर का पहला ऐसा सम्मलेन था। कांग्रेस एवं अधिकांश व्यावसायिक नेताओं ने पहले गोलमेज सम्मेलन का बहिष्कार किया परन्तु, मुस्लिम लीग, हिंदू महासभा, उदारवादियों एवं राजाओं ने इस सम्मलेन में भाग लिया था।
