Solution

The correct option is D

Neither A nor B

Article 54 of the constitution says:

"The President shall be elected by the members of an electoral college consisting of -

  1. The elected members of both Houses of Parliament and
  2. The elected members of the Legislative Assemblies of the States (including National Capital Territory of Delhi and the Union Territory of Pondicherry vide the Constitution 70th amendment Act, 1992)."

Thus in the election of the President the citizens play no direct part and he is elected indirectly by the representatives or the people.

Article 63 says: “There shall be a Vice-President of India”.

Qualifications for Election of President:

A person cannot be elected as Vice-President unless he -

  1. must be a citizen of India,
  2. over 35 years of age,
  3. must not hold any office of profit,
  4. and must be qualified for election as a member of Rajya Sabha.
  5. He should not be member of any House of Parliament.

A person is not also eligible if he holds any office of profit under the Government of India or a State Government or any subordinate local authority.
