The Rajiv Gandhi National Creche Scheme was revamped in 2006. The present scheme will provide assistance to NGOs for running crèches for infants (0-6 years) of working mothers with the monthly income of less than Rs. 12,000/- and would provide assistance to ensure sleeping facilities, healthcare, supplementary nutrition, immunization, etc. for eight hours. This is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme for adolescent girls from 11 to 18 Years also known as SABLA.
The guidelines of Rajiv Gandhi National Creche Scheme have been revised w.e.f. 01st January, 2016 and new guidelines envisage provision of safe, secure & child friendly place to the children. Provisions of regular monitoring of creches have also been made. Regular monitoring of crèches is done by Implementing Agencies i.e. Central Social Welfare Board and Indian Council for Child Welfare.
The scheme envisages implementation through the Central Social Welfare Board (CSWB), Indian Council for Child Welfare (ICCW), and Bharatiya Adim Jati Sevak Sangh (BAJSS).Further, the implementing agencies have, from time to time, closed down crèches for various
reasons, including non-performance, resulting in further reduction in number of crèches during the period.
Funds are released directly to the implementing agencies and no State-wise releases are made.
