Shah Jahan was the fifth Emperor of the Mughal Empire who succeeded his father, Jahangir and reigned from 1628 to 1658. He is known for building Taj Mahal, mausoleum of white marble, built in Agra between 1631 and 1648 in the memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal. He appointed Aurangzeb as Viceroy of the Deccan who went on to capture Baglana, then Golconda and then Bijapur during his viceroyalty.
