Sir Thomas Roe was sent to the court of Mughal Emperor Jahangir by King James I of England. He stayed in Agra for three years, and successfully concluded a commercial treaty with the Emperor. The Dutch established their first factory in Masulipatnam in Andhra Pradesh in 1605.
