Solution

The correct option is A

(i) and (iii)

Explanation for the correct option:

  1. Fe (Iron) filings can be separated from FeS(Iron sulphide) by rolling a magnet over FeSbecause FeS is not attracted towards magnet but, Fe filings will be attracted towards magnet and can easily be separated therefore, first statement is correct.
  2. The statement (ii), i.e., S(Sulphur) powder can be separated from FeS by dissolving FeSin Carbon disulphide CS2 is incorrect because Iron Sulphide does not dissolves in Carbon disulphide CS2.
  3. The last statement i.e., a mixture of Fe filings and S powder can be separated either by a magnet or by using Carbon disulphide is also correct because Iron is magnetic and can be separated by rolling magnet over it and Sulphur S is soluble in Carbon disulphide CS2.

Explanation for the incorrect options:

Option (B) is incorrect as the combination of statement (ii) and (iii) should not be the correct choice as statement (ii) is a wrong statement.

Option (C) is incorrect as the combination of statement (i) and (ii) should not be the correct choice as statement (ii) is a wrong statement.

Option (D) is incorrect because both the statements (i) and (iii) are correct but not just statement (iii), therefore this option will be a wrong choice.

Hence, option (A) is correct.
