Question

Consider the following statements.
In the Haber's method of synthesis of ammonia:
1. An increase of pressure favours the formation of NH3
2. A decrease of pressure produces more NH3
3. An increase of temperature dissociates NH3
4. Addition of inert gas at constant pressure favors the formation of NH3

Solution

The correct option is B 1 and 3
In Haber's method of sunthesis of NH3:
N2(g)+3H2(g)2NH3(g),H=92.4KJ/mol
Effect of pressure :- In this reaction, proceed reaction is accompanied by decrease in total no. of moles. If pressure is increased then, by Le Chatelier's principle, the equilibrium will shift in direction of formation of ammonia.
Effect of temperature :- The forward reaction is exothermic in nature, So, If temperature is increased then according to Le Chatelier's principle the equilibrium shift in backward direction.
