The Nuclear Weapons Ban Treaty agreement was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 2017 as a legally binding instrument to prohibit nuclear weapons. India and other nuclear weapons states including the United States, Russia, The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea have not signed it yet. India had said that it was “not convinced” on the effectiveness of the proposal in addressing nuclear disarmament.
