Mosses and liverworts are bryophytes which are found commonly growing in moist shaded areas in the hills. While the main plant body of these bryophytes is haploid giving rise to gametes, their sporophytes are not free-living but are found attached to the gametophyte for its nutrition. However, the sporophyte of mosses is also differentiated into foot, seta and capsule like that of the sporophyte of liverworts. But, the sporophyte in mosses is more elaborate than that in liverworts as the capsule contains spores with an elaborate mechanism of spore dispersal.
