Infections or diseases which are transmitted through sexual intercourse are collectively called sexually transmitted infections.

These are spread by different types of pathogens.

Gonorrhea is caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae, which is a bacterium.

Syphilis is caused by a bacterium, Treponema pallidum.

Chlamydiasis is also caused by bacteria, Chlamydia trachomatis.

Genital Herpes is caused by the Herpes Simplex Virus(HSV) is, therefore, a viral disease.

Genital Warts is a viral disease caused by the Human Papilloma Virus(HPV).

Trichomoniasis is caused by a protozoan Trichomonas vaginalis.

Hepatitis B and AIDS are caused by Hepatitis B virus and Human Immunodeficiency Virus respectively.
