Question

Consider the Pressure vs Time graphs for two longitudinal waves A and B. What can you conclude about the amplitude and frequency of both the waves.
(Assume that the graphs are drawn to the same scale.)

Solution

From the given pressure vs time graphs we can conclude that both the waves have the same amplitude, i.e., 4 units on pressure axis.

Wave A completes one oscillation in the same time as taken for wave B to complete two oscillations, i.e., 8 units on time axis. Thus, the frequency of B is higher than that of wave A.
