$\Rightarrow$ Take $A$ as center with radius $5cm$ and draw an arc.

$\Rightarrow$ Take $B$ as center with radius $3.1cm$ and draw an arc which cuts off previous arc at point $C$

$\Rightarrow$ Take $A$ as center with radius $4.2cm$ and draw an arc.

$\Rightarrow$ Take $C$ as center with radius $3.cm$ and draw an arc which cuts off previous arc at point $D$

$\Rightarrow$ Join $BC,AC,CD,AD$ and $BD$

$\Rightarrow$ Measure the length of $BD$

$\Rightarrow$ We get, $BD=5cm$
