Question

Construct a rhombus ABCD whose length of one side AB is 5 cm and DAB=π2. Find the difference between the length of its diagonals.

Given : ABCD is a rhombus.
AB=5 cm
AB=BC=CD=DA=5 cm ..........(1) (In rhombus all sides are equal)
DAB=π2=90o ..... (2)
DCB=90o ...... (Opposite angles are equal)
DAB+ABC=180o ........ (Adjacent angles are supplementary)
ABC=90o
Similarly, BDA=90o
AC and BD are diagonals of ABCD
In DAB, DAB=90o
By Pythagoras theorem,
BD2=AB2+AD2=52+52=50
BD=50 ............. (3)
In ADC, ADC=90o
By Pythagoras theorem we have,
AC2=AD2+DC2=52+52=50
AC=50 ............... (4)
By using (3) and (4),
ACBD=0
Hence, difference between two diagonals is 0.
